Context and resources
Education And A Distinct Government
The Tribe's timeline records a one-room school in New Kent County beginning in 1910. It dates formation of the Eastern Division's own tribal government to 1920 to 1921 and a certificate of incorporation to 1925. It says the school closed in 1950, when students were bused to Samaria Indian School in Charles City County. These dates describe community institutions and a distinct government, not the beginning of the Chickahominy people.

Food Sovereignty And Dated Plans
CIT-ED's food-sovereignty page says a 2022 EPA Sustainable Materials Management grant helped develop a community compost and gardening program. The same page describes plans for 2025: a cultural garden for school children and a food forest intended to increase food sovereignty and share knowledge of the land. Those are dated plans in the publisher's account. This source check does not establish whether those plans were completed or what is operating today.
