Where we are
457 nations in 15 regions and 99 present-day countries, with 1,285 checked facts. Thin regions come first: they are the work still to do. Tier A entries have the nation's own site and a fact from it; tier B entries have at least one checked fact; tier C entries are listed by name while facts are compiled.
A denominator is a planning number, not a definition of who counts. State lists reflect state recognition. Nations recognized by a state, nations that are not, and nations that identify themselves are listed here with the same dignity.
Names missing from profiles should still be visible
The new directory preserves 577 published US federal name records, while the source states 575. That discrepancy remains unresolved. Directory names are separate from the researched profiles counted below.
Canada's separate inventory lists 634 named administrative registry groups as of December 31, 2024, not that many current governments.
